Orion Nebula or Messier Object 42 (M42) is a diffuse nebula in the constellation Orion, 1344 light years away.
It is seen by the naked eye as a star, even from light polluted locations.
It is part of the greater Orion Molecular Cloud Complex and is one of the nearest major star forming regions in our galaxy.
The Running Man Nebula is left of centre.
